Such a great experience! We went in for a late lunch on Tuesday- the "Two for Tuesday" lunch special of 2 cheesesteaks was a great deal, and he description sounded amazing. Our server, "Small Fry", was super attentive and helpful. The restaurant has a distinct 50s feel, from the decor to the jukeboxes at each table having hits of the 50s and 60s. It was really fun! Food came out piping hot, and the fries were PERFECTION! My chicken cheesesteak fell through the Amoroso roll, but tasted amazing. We decided to get dessert and ordered the hot fudge cookie sundae on our server's recommendation - she was spot on, that sundae was amazing. She also offered to give us drinks "for the road" since we were walking around town, which was really thoughtful. She was absolutely wonderful, we couldn't have asked for better! Thank you so much for making our lunch one to remember!
3.5 stars, rounding up to 4! As a heads up to any recent/upcoming visitors: one of the main managers left recently, as well as half the normal wait staff, so be nice to the current staff!! They're really strapped and trying their best. Big shoutout to our waitress Brittany for being so sweet. Anyways, I'm a huge sucker for diners, especially retro themed ones! I love that walking up to Baby's, you already start to hear old-fashioned tunes and that you're greeted while waiting to be seated. The decor is lovely (though like many college joints, may need a bit of an update) and everyone is decked out in cute uniforms. Sat in the lower part of the restaurant with a group of friends and got the Whimpy basket on the recommendation of a friend, as well as a milkshake and fried Mac and cheese bites. Husband got the Baby's basket (2 full cheeseburgers instead of 2 sliders) and said he was a little disappointed in it, but I honestly enjoyed my burger sliders (and honestly... for 2 sliders, fries, and pickles, $5 is not a bad price). I most anticipated the milkshake and was happy with it (could have been thicker and colder, but can't complain with the portions; they do the old-fashioned way where they give you a glass and what's basically a second serving in the metal cup) - I ordered the Oreo mixed with the mint chocolate chip on the recommendation of the waitress! Surprise hit were the Mac and cheese bites - someone else had ordered a side of Mac and cheese and said that the fried bites were better. I almost ordered a second helping if I hadn't already been full! Only downside was that it's double the price of the normal Mac and cheese side, but not sure if you get enough to justify the markup! Overall, inexpensive diner prices and a classic diner environment, and close to campus. I'd like to come back to try more of their extensive menu, but probably only once in a while.
My son loves this place. We do not give him anymore the option to choose the restaurant cause otherwise we would be eating here endlessly. I really like the two burgers, but this time I got the hot dog and it was good. The milkshake is highly recommended. Actually, one is enough for two given that they give you the jar they used to blend the ice cream and it is pretty much half additional way through.
This popular spot (always crowded with Penn Staters) has a retro feel to it - think 1950's-era diner. Like a classic diner, there are great shakes here (I like their chocolate shake). Make sure to get an order of Wimpy's (tiny hamburgers) as they won't fill you up, unless you decide to get several orders...
Always a stop when visiting Penn State. Love the little whimpy burgers. Two with fries is perfect. And the kids meals come with little bitty sundaes!
